The da Vinci Staircase

Love and Turbulence in the Loire Valley

Who holds the title of being the best guide to the Loire Valley? Me, Inspector Canal, of course. Who guides you surefootedly through all the dishes and wines, mysteries and crimes in its fabulous Renaissance castles? Me again! So join me as I explore all that the Loire Valley has to offer, from the depths of its wine cellars to its famous palaces, and take you on a journey into the mind of the genius of geniuses, Leonardo da Vinci.

The Da Vinci Staircase chronicles my exciting trip to the Loire in 2019, which just so happened to coincide with the five-hundredth anniversary of da Vinci's death. I imagined I’d spend a tranquil week in the Valley, sipping and savoring some of my beloved wines, but peculiar events began taking place all up and down the river. From Chambord Castle to Leonardo’s last home and well beyond, “incidents” started occurring on odd dates in unfathomable ways and at an ever more frenzied pace. My love for architecture (and women!) entangled me in intrigues involving winemakers, musicians, artists, Olympic athletes, and even mathematicians. Was there any rhyme or reason to the series of incidents? And who would be the next victim?

As I unraveled the mysteries of da Vinci’s final days, my role shifted from predator to unwitting prey in this madcap investigation where love and hate were as turbulent as the royal river itself! Did this additional challenge help me uncover a conspiracy? Buckle up for the ultimate mystery-thriller in the pages of The Da Vinci Staircase, and prepare yourself for plenty of twists and turns, wine, women, and, of course, wit.

See you in the Loire Valley!
